The foreign trade deficit in January exceeded half a billion dollars.

Belarusian exports of goods in January fell by 11.5% to $2.726 billion. Such data was published by Belstat. At the same time, imports grew by 1% to $3.23 billion. The deficit of foreign trade in goods in January amounted to $504.3 million, which is 4.2 times more than last year, Radio Racyja reports.

Earlier it became known that warehouse stocks in January in the Belarusian industry immediately increased by more than 1 billion rubles. The sharp slowdown in exports in January can be associated, among other things, with a calendar factor: due to the transfer of days off, only one working day fell in the first week.

In trade with the CIS countries, exports in January fell by 6.2% to $1.877 billion, while imports fell by 4.4% to $1.82 billion.

The trade surplus with the CIS countries amounted to $62 million, which is 40% less than a year ago.

In trade with non-CIS countries, exports fell by 21.3% to $849 million. Imports in January from these countries increased by 8.9% to $1.415 billion.

The deficit in foreign trade in goods with the CIS countries amounted to $566.3 million, which is 2.5 times more than in the first month of 2024.
