40% of head office employees to be laid off
Gazprom plans to lay off about 40% of its head office employees, which amounts to 1,500 jobs. The company is using a method previously used by Elon Musk to select personnel, requiring employees to explain the importance of their work.
Gazprom management has decided to carry out large-scale staff reductions at the company's central office. According to Reuters, citing sources, about 1,500 employees, which amounts to about 40% of the head office staff, will be subject to optimization.
Employees have been asked to prepare personal reports in which they must describe in detail their job responsibilities and explain why their work is important to the company. A similar assessment method was previously used by Elon Musk in the United States, requiring civil servants to report on their activities under threat of dismissal.
There has been no official announcement of layoffs yet, but employees have already been instructed to detail their functions. According to one source, the goal of this approach is to identify duplicate positions and optimize the staff. The process will be completed within a few weeks.
At the same time, Reuters notes that even after the layoffs, the number of Gazprom employees will remain significant, since the company employs more than 500 thousand people throughout Russia.
