Azerbaijan has confirmed the liquidation of a branch of the Russian propaganda news agency Sputnik, which is part of the media group "Russia Today". This was told to Report by the representative of the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ayhan Hajizade.

According to him, the company will be given the opportunity to obtain accreditation for only one correspondent in Azerbaijan.

Earlier, the Caliber publication reported that the remaining employee will work in the country on the basis of the laws of the republic and the agreement between the governments of the two countries dated January 9, 2001 on the status of media correspondents.

The decision to disperse the editorial office of Sputnik by the Azerbaijani authorities was made almost simultaneously with the closure of the "Russian House" in Baku. In early February, the country's leadership announced the existence of legal claims against the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo. At the same time, the pro-government TV channel Baku.tv aired a story in which employees of the "Russian House" were accused of espionage.
